Since our inception, Centrewest has been committed to supporting the local community.
Over the years we have provided support through donations and sponsorships of some organisations close to our heart, such as Breast Cancer Care WA, TRANSAFE WA and Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre.
More recently, we have been looking at ways to extend our positive impact in the community and engage our staff to get involved.
This year we launched the Centrewest Staff Volunteering Program.
As part of the program, we offer our staff paid leave to volunteer with an organisation of their choice.
We want the organisations we partner with to reflect the personal priorities and interests of our team, so we asked for their input of the types of organisations they want to volunteer for. It was great to see a range of causes reflected in everyone’s interests.
Centrewest Managing Director, Rick Post, is really excited to be able to offer this new program to all staff. “I think it’s so important for businesses to give back to their local community, and I’m really happy to give our staff the opportunity to get involved by choosing a cause that is close to their heart,” he said.
This year Centrewest partnered with Trillion Trees, Foodbank WA and the Ronald McDonald House Charity.
Trillion Trees
Staff took part in a tree planting day at their planting site in Caversham. Despite being a chilly 7-degree morning, the volunteer group warmed up quickly by planting close to 3,500 trees! As well as doing something fun and beneficial for the environment, the team also learnt about the history of the site and how their efforts would help to restore the land and rebuild habitats for endangered species.
Foodbank WA
The team worked in Foodbank WA’s warehouse – picking, sorting and packing groceries and fresh produce for people who struggle to afford them. Our team’s contribution added to the total of 255 meals/packs that went out to people in need that day. What an incredible effort!
Ronald McDonald House Charity
The team helped to ‘bake a difference’ in the lives of families with a seriously sick or injured child by cooking an array of savory dishes and sweets treats for families staying at Ronald McDonald House in Nedlands. Their delicious donations provided a temporary escape from the worry and stress these families are facing on a daily basis. After the cook-up was complete, some of the team were able to help out in the play space within Perth’s Children’s Hospital, entertaining the children receiving treatment there.
